Celtics Power Past Mavericks 125-112 in NBA Finals Opener
Brown and Porzingis Shine Off the Bench
The Boston Celtics took control of the NBA Finals on Thursday night, defeating the Dallas Mavericks 125-112 in Game 1. Jayson Tatum led the way for the Celtics with 37 points, 13 rebounds, and 5 assists. Jaylen Brown added 22 points and Kristaps Porzingis came off the bench to score 20 points and grab 10 rebounds.
The Celtics took control of the game early, building a 10-point lead in the first quarter. The Mavericks closed the gap to four points in the second quarter, but the Celtics extended their lead to 17 points at halftime.
The Celtics maintained their lead in the second half, and the Mavericks were never able to get closer than 10 points. Tatum hit a key three-pointer with less than three minutes remaining to seal the victory.
The Mavericks were led by Luka Dončić, who finished with 32 points, 11 rebounds, and 8 assists. However, Dončić was not able to get enough help from his teammates. Spencer Dinwiddie and Reggie Bullock were the only other Mavericks players to score in double figures.
The Celtics now have a 1-0 lead in the NBA Finals. Game 2 will be played in Boston on Sunday night.
