Sdg Indicator 411

UNESCO Global Indicator Framework

Indicator 4.1.1

Proportion of children and young people achieving at least a minimum proficiency level in reading and mathematics

This indicator measures the percentage of children and young people who have achieved a minimum proficiency level in reading and mathematics at the end of primary and lower secondary education.

The indicator is based on data from national and international assessments of student achievement. The data are collected by UNESCO's Institute for Statistics and are used to track progress towards Sustainable Development Goal 4, which aims to ensure that all children and young people have access to quality education and learning opportunities.

The indicator has been revised since its original definition in 2015. The revised definition now includes data from both national and international assessments, and it also takes into account the different levels of proficiency that are required for success in different countries.

The revised indicator is more comprehensive and accurate than the original definition. It provides a better measure of the progress that is being made towards achieving SDG 4.
